The University Master in Sustainable Tourism Destinations and Regional Tourism Planning enables student to: Gain insight into the sustainable tourism industry: Acquiring knowledge of tourism destination planning and management with the application of sustainability criteria. Designing strategies and plans for dynamizing and differentiating tourism products and destinations based on sustainable tourism management, both in well-established and emerging destinations. Understand the regulatory framework: Learning the regulatory framework with respect to regional planning at different scales and its impact on the management of tourism destinations. Detect business opportunities: Analysing sustainability as a competitive advantage for designing, promoting and commercializing new tourism products. Discover and applying information and communications technologies to tourism design and commercialization: Learning to apply the latest methods and techniques for the development and efficient management of tourism products and destinations. Gain insight into the environmental impacts of tourism for proposing alternatives for sustainable planning and management of emerging tourism. Key features of the Sustainable Destinations programs Integrating sustainability into tourism planning and management is not simply a question of reviewing the concepts but also product design and tourism destination management, applying new tools and strategies that enable tourism activity that takes greater care of the environment. As such, sustainability also becomes an indicator of quality, efficiency, competitiveness and innovation, able to tackle the current challenges involved in tourism and development strategies. Sustainable development has become a new paradigm in the 21st Century, in both the public and private sphere, and from an international right down to a local level. In the tourism sector, this paradigm has given rise to the concept of sustainable tourism, which focuses on the environmental, social and economic aspects in this sector. There is an ever-growing number of public bodies, academic institutions, tourism destinations, companies and international organizations that are concerned about integrating sustainability criteria into their policies. The Master is designed for graduates with university degrees, diplomas or engineering qualifications, and particularly for graduates of Tourism, as well as similar sciences, such as Geography, Economics, Architecture and Environmental or Regional Science. Participants will preferably have professional experience in the tourism sector and/or regional planning, and want to expand their knowledge in the field of sustainable tourism planning and management. The project is carried out by groups of a maximum of three students, under the supervision of a tutor specializing in the specific area on which the group has decided to focus. Supplementary training courses for the Program To obtain the official qualification of the Master, some students may have to complete certain supplementary training courses on a compulsory basis, depending on their academic background and experience. According to the regulations, the only students who are exempt from doing the supplementary training courses on ‘Regional Resources Focusing on Leisure and Tourism’ and ‘Tourism and Leisure as Regional Development Strategies’ are graduates of the following Bachelor Degrees or University Diplomas: Bachelor Degrees or University Diplomas in the field of Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Engineering and Architecture.
